It's not fair

    " 's just not fair!" The little boy said, hopping out of the diner booth and taking a hesitant step in the direction of a large man who had, just moment ago, spoken to Eddy in a way that Zach wouldn't stand for. "He can't talk to you like that!"
    "Zach, forget it, just sit back down-" Eddy insisted.
    But even in this tiny little body, Zach was determined to stick up for Eddy. "But he called you names!" Zach said furiously, "And he said those bad things to you!"
    "Just forget it!" Eddy objected, trying to keep his voice low to avoid attracting attention, but Zach seemed to be doing that well enough on his own.
    "But Eddy!" the little boy cried, so flustered and upset that he started to tear up. "He called you dumb and you're not dumb! You're the smartest guy in the world! You can't-..You can't-..you can't let him..do that.." His complaint had started confident but he was fading closer and closer to tears as he looked at Eddy who clearly didn't see the big injustice that  Zach was seeing.
    Eddy swore under his breath and quickly rose from the booth to move over to the boy. People were starting to stare and he knew if Zach didn't calm down people would start asking questions and Eddy knew good and well Hale said to be discreet and if things progressed any further they weren't going to be discreet anymore.
    "Alright, alright, come on, take it easy," the man replied, trying to talk the boy out of crying. But it was too late, tears started to fall from Zach's big eyes and the little guy seemed to be on the verge of a complete breakdown.
    Eddy could feel the stares of the other people in the diner (namely the waitress who seemed very very concerned that this little boy was traveling with such a strange man who was clearly not the boy's father). So Eddy did the only thing he could think of quickly.
    He lifted little Zach up into his arms and shushed him gently. "It's okay," he reassured, though gentler this time, having to remind himself again and again that this Zach was a child. And this Zach needed Eddy to be a little gentler than he was with the older Zach. "I know that guy's just a jerk, alright? Don't worry about him. He isn't worth a thing."
    "I just-..I just- wanted to stick up f-for..you," Zach hiccuped with tiny sobs.
    "I know," Eddy sort of smiled at the thought. Normally, Zach would start throwing fists when it came to standing up for Eddy. But this Zach was barely six years old and hardly weighed anything. Now was not the time for him to start picking fights with anyone, much let much men that were twice Eddy's size.
    "No one..should- should treat you so bad.." Zach said said. The little boy sighed and wrapped his arms around Eddy's neck, burrowing his face into the crook of the man's neck. " 'm sorry.."
    "It's alright," Eddy told him, "Thanks for trying."
    Zach nodded, his little hands reaching out to tinker with Eddy's necklace.
    "What's say we go on home?" Eddy offered. "You can come home with me while Hale works everything out at his place. That sound alright?"
    Zach nodded, pressing closer to Eddy and yawned. "Yeah.."
    "You're probably ready for a nap too, huh?"
    Zach bobbed his head, knitting his brows together. " 's been a long day."
    "I'm sure it has," Eddy chuckled, thankful that Zach was a lot more docile and calm now that he was up in Eddy's arms. "Let's go home then."

so after i worked on some commission stuff i took a break and scribbled this up

for anyone who missed it
due to unforeseen circumstances and a whole lot of bad luck Zach's been zapped back about 20 years to his seven year old self
and along with trying to figure out how to change him back, Hale and Eddy (and sometimes bobby) have to take care of the little tike who is a whoooole lot different than his adult self


even being little though, Zach's a fighter
he was raised a fighter the moment he could understand what a fighter was
and he's sorta taken to Eddy really well in this itty bitty form

unfortunately being so young
he's also back tot he time when he was very very little and underweight and not so much of a tough guy that he is as an adult
so when he throws up his fists and starts shouting little threats
they aren't so intimidating


i probably got eddy all wrong
but i figured he's smart
he'd know what to do
maybe a little
